DANNY WOOD CAREER
While attending Boston University, Donnie Wahlberg, his friend invited Wood to join a new boy band called New Kids on the Block. He joined the group and tried to balance his academics with the band’s commitments, but soon dropped out of school to focus on a full-time solo music career. Eventually, the band would become one of the most popular boy bands in the 1980s and early 1990s, touring around the world and selling more than 70 million albums worldwide.
The band’s first album achieved triple platinum certification in the United States and they went on to make hit songs. Their second album entitled ‘Hangin’ Tough ‘. The album included songs like ‘I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)’ and ‘You Got It (The Right Stuff)’. During the 1994 Face the Music tour, band member Jonathan Knight left the band and this led to the disbandment of New Kids on the Block.
During this time, Wood decided to pursue a very solo musical career, like the rest of the former band members. Wood has released various albums including ‘D-Wood: Room Full of Smoke’, ‘D-Fuse: Room Full of Smoke’ and ‘Stronger: Remember Betty’. In 2003, he also released three singles titled ‘Different Worlds’, ‘When the Lights Go Out’ and ‘What If’, he also founded his own record label known as Damage Productions, which was responsible for most of his releases. The members of New Kids on the Block got together in 2008 and started recording a new album. They keep making music and touring today.
Wood also had a short acting career, most notably in the film “Tequila Express” alongside Christopher Atkins. He is also known for doing philanthropic activities from time to time, helping with charities and organizations in Boston.
