Alice Cooper, born in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States, is an American singer, songwriter and actress whose career spans over 50 years. Cooper is regarded by music journalists and peers as ‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’ along with a hoarse voice and stage show that features numerous props, including guillotines, fake blood, electric chairs, dolls, reptiles, and dueling swords.
Cooper similarly drew on horror movies and garage rock to pave the way for a macabre and theatrical rock brand designed to shock people. Cooper is also known for his witty and humorous personality offstage, with The Rolling Stone Album Guide calling him ‘the world’s most loved heavy metal entertainer’. Away from music, Cooper is a movie actor, golf celebrity, restaurateur and, since 2004, a popular radio DJ with his classic rock show Nights with Alice Cooper.
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona in 1964, ‘Alice Cooper’ was originally a band consisting of Furnier on vocals and harmonica, Glen Buxton on lead guitar, Michael Bruce on rhythm guitar, Dennis Dunaway on bass and Neal Smith on drums. Alice Cooper’s original band released their debut album in 1969 and broke into the mainstream of international music with the 1971 hit song ‘I’m Eighteen’.
The band reached commercial peak in 1973 with their sixth studio album, Billion Dollar Babies. The band disbanded in 1975 and Furnier adopted the band name as his name, starting his solo career with the 1975 concept album Welcome to My Nightmare.
Expanding from his Detroit rock roots, Cooper has pioneered a range of musical styles, including art rock, hard rock, heavy metal, new wave, glam metal, and industrial rock. He is credited with helping to shape the sound and appearance of heavy metal, and has been described as the artist who ‘first introduced horror imagery into rock and roll, and whose stage and show art they transformed into permanently the genre ‘.

During an interview with AZ Central Sheryl revealed that she didn’t know who Alice was the first time they met
a lot on rock and roll too. But when you’re on the go, a pizza party and horror movies in Cooper’s hotel suite
with the crew proved fateful.
‘We were engaged in a conversation which was so funny that I didn’t notice everyone slowly leaving the room.’ Their marriage got off to a rough start as Cooper was in the midst of alcohol addiction. In November 1977 Sheryl had
committed to a rehabilitation facility in New York. Her sobriety did not last long and in 1983 Sheryl filed for divorce due to her drinking. They reconciled before the divorce was finalized, and Cooper has been sober ever since.
In 2011 during an interview with The Guardian Cooper said the secret of his longtime marriage to Sheryl is because he never cheated.

‘When you’re presented with,’ Hey, you want to go around the world, get paid and perform in front of thousands of people and get to be with your family, ‘you know, the answer is yes. It is the best of all possible worlds.
For the first two years, I was concerned with my p and q. I knew Alice fans would compare it to ‘Well, Sheryl did it this way’. But after a couple of years, I really gained my trust. Suddenly, instead of just being sexy or flirty, I thought, ‘What if I make you hate her more than you hate Alice? I bet I could do it. >>
Cooper gave me carte blanche to do what I wanted, and as the tours went on and time, this nurse character became a hit with these fans because you really wanted him to die. I felt like I did my job. They hated this character. Alice has also appeared in films such as Bloomers and Thirty Proof Coil.

ALICE COOPER BAND
In 1964 Vince Furnier (stage name Alice Cooper) along with his high school friends, Dennis Dunway and Glen Buxton formed a band known as Alice Cooper. Alice Cooper was the singer, Glen Buxton was the lead guitarist while Dennis Dunway was the bassist. Later they were joined by Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar, keyboards) and Neal Smith (drums).
The band moved to Los Angeles in 1967 and was briefly renamed Nazz. In 1970 the band moved to Pontiac,
Michigan due to the slow sales of their first two albums and the indifference of Californians to their act.
In the late 1970s the band released their single ‘I’m Eighteen’ which became a Top 40 hit. Due to
the single ‘s success , Warner Bros invested in their third album, ‘Love It to Death’. They released four more successful albums and were the headliners of major tours from 1971 to 1974. In 1975 the band disbanded after playing their final concert on April 8, 1974 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 1975, after the band disbanded, Vince Furnier legally changed his name to Alice Cooper and had a solo career
under that name. He once said that the name change was one of his most important and successful career moves. Bruce, Dunaway and Smith formed the short-lived Billion Dollar Babies and released a Battle Ax album – in 1977. From time to time they performed between themselves and Glen Buxton.
On October 23, 1999, they reunited with Alice at the second Glen Buxton Memorial Weekend for a show at Coopers Town in Phoenix (Buxton having died in 1997). On December 16, 2010, they reunited for another show, with Steve Hunter on guitar at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix.
On March 14, 2011 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed together; a performance
that was broadcast on television. They also performed together at London’s Battersea Power Station at the Jägermeister Ice Cold 4D event (webcast) on 11 May 2011. On 17 April 2014, a documentary about the band titled Super Duper Alice Cooper premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. A week later it was to be screened at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
The band reunited on October 6, 2015 in Dallas during Dunaway’s autograph session. The surviving members of the band were supposed to release an album, but it never materialized as the only material on the surface was two bonus tracks on Cooper’s 27th studio album Paranormal. On May 14, 2017, the four surviving members reunited for a five-song set at a show in Nashville, Tennessee. They reunited again the same year for a UK tour.
