ESPN’s Adam Schefter was widely criticized for an interview in which he allowed NFL free agent Greg Hardy to paint a favorable picture of his 2014 domestic violence incident, but Schefter said he only regrets one comment that he did after the interview and not the substance of the conversation itself.
On Tuesday, the network’s NFL reporter told ‘The Dan Patrick Show’ after his chat with Hardy that he believes the player, currently a free agent who attracts little interest, has ‘changed’ after a controversial 2015 season with the Dallas Cowboys.
‘I walked in there with the idea that everyone had, that this guy is a monster, okay? I walked in there thinking this was one of the scariest people in the NFL, ‘he told Patrick about his’ exclusive’ encounter with Hardy in Mississippi. “And I came out of there with a very different feeling about him. I walked out of there feeling like this is a guy who managed to say the wrong things at the wrong times, didn’t always make the right decisions.
“But I found out he was a changed type of person, a guy who I think realizes he made a mistake, he could have handled things differently than in that incident. It is such a difficult thing. I would like to speak to more people before making a judgment. All I can do is what he said. I will say this; she wasn’t wavering, she was adamant, ‘I’ve never touched this woman.’ ‘
Schefter returned those comments Wednesday during a discussion on WEEI’s ‘Dennis and Callahan Show’.
